In response to recent media reports about unpaid fees, the founder of Borderland Music Festival wants to address the situation openly. "We're just a group of EDM lovers with the same passion, trying to make something special happen in our hometown," the founder explains. From day one, the Borderland team has been committed to making this dream a reality. While we’ve faced plenty of challenges, we're fully dedicated to settling all financial obligations.

We want to clear up any misunderstandings about the payment delays. The truth is, it’s not about a lack of responsibility or intent. Instead, we’ve faced significant financial losses, exceeding RM1 million, which has hit us hard. Despite this, we haven’t given up on our vision. "When we lost money, we didn’t throw in the towel," the founder shares. "When Mr. Kang joined, we thought he shared the same passion and vision we had."

Arrangement with Mr Kang :

It's important to note that Mr. Kang is currently seeking over RM50,000 from us—an amount that was never previously discussed or agreed upon. We responded to his letter of demand in early September, offering RM7,000 as a goodwill gesture, which he accepted at the time. So, it's surprising and disappointing to face these accusations now.

There have also been reports claiming Mr. Kang acted as a sound system provider, which isn’t accurate. He was actually a partner in the festival's organization, playing an important role in different areas of the event. He didn't put any money into the event.  Like any partnership, both the profits and the risks are shared among all involved. As a partner, Mr. Kang shares the same financial risks as the rest of the team. The losses from the first Borderland event are a collective responsibility, and we’ve been doing everything in good faith to resolve things. In fact, unlike other partners, we’ve even compensated Mr. Kang for his services, something no other partner has received.

To ensure fairness, we’re working closely with our sound system partner on an installment plan to settle payments as soon as possible. This is part of our commitment to resolving any outstanding issues while maintaining the integrity of the partnerships we’ve built.

Despite the setbacks and losses, our love for music and the festival’s vision remains strong. “Even though we lost money last year, we still want to keep the festival going this year,” the founder adds. We're not giving up. With transparency and cooperation, we believe we can resolve this positively.

As a grassroots team with no major financial backing, we're just doing our best to make a difference and contribute to Sarawak’s tourism scene. We hope everyone understands the challenges we’re facing as we work to fulfill our commitments and help the industry as a whole.
